Different Races

When we heard about race, that means we are talking about different culture, religion, their appearances, face, etc. But when we think about races but people are same but they just have different face and their religion. I think we should make every people equal rights. In Indian we have like song we sing in school and first line of song is we should believe everybody is brother and sister and we will protect each other. Also, In my opinion we should make different rules and things for different people. When we are watching like guess who they are?? But we can not judge them by their face or how they look. But we judge them by their culture, religion and where they from?? Sometimes I confuse by how to make different between some people. Last week , Sal saw us different balls and tell us to categorize them. I put them in three different parts like soft ball, hard ball and large balls. But at the end he told us what they actually mean like there is different races and different cultures but they all look same. Each ball worth something like for different countries just like we saw cricket ball and tell students to tell us where do you put that one. Also, when we watch that show The Office it was cool but it was kind of against race like the manger was making fun of different culture like African American, Indian and that stuff. He could not do that stuff. Also, when we are different from other culture that means we are new in different countries.
When I was in India, we had no problem with race that much but when I came here it was totally different because here is more people are coming from different countries. We should not go against them. Also, I would like to say just be equal to each other and try to accept everybody. Also, generally the racial categories represent a social-political construct for the race or races that respondents consider themselves to be and generally reflect a social definition of race recognized in this country

Way to live in Different social class....

I think since we are watching movie about social class. The movie is very interesting about how social classes are different in USA. How people are treating others differently if they are not same as them like if they are rich, they treat rich people better than poor. Also, they have different classes in school, and they get more respect than others. In the movie we are shown all different families or individuals who live in different social classes. We are shown how they dress, what they eat , what they say and most importantly how they view the classes higher or lower than them and how they view themselves.I think this is most important thing we should learn about and try to fix the problem. We should treat everybody the same. Because humans are same but they just have their own identity to prove them self differently like their race, culture, way they act and their believes. Another thing I saw in movie was social classes in school like rich students have different classes than poor kids. Why?? Just because they do not have that much money but I think that is biggest problem in USA. Many Americans believe in a simple three-class model that includes the rich , the middle class, and the poor. More complex models that have been proposed describe as many as a dozen class levels; while still others deny the very existence, in the strict sense, of social class in American society. Most definitions of class structure group people according wealth, income, education, type of occupation, and membership in a specific subculture or social network.
Today Mr. Sal was talking about preschool and how much they have to pay to get in, I mean why should they have to pay higher prices like colleges in preschool. Another important factor of social class is working people who are working hard and get money like blue color people, that is hard work for them and get less money. Also, Monday we are looking at different charts in class about how wealth, education, location, race effect on person. If you are rich it is most likely to get higher score in ACT and they earn highest money. But I don't think so it is big matter. When I was in we used to learn about caste system just like social class here. In caste system there are four different parts and if you are at bottom its class Sudra(untouchable), they have like not that much right like they can not touch any rich people or they do not get good school and lot of other stuff. But that problem is going down, people try to understand them not make them separate from them. When I was in school in India, and the one guy was from lower class, our whole class was not talking to him and does not give him respect. I think that is not fair for him but we have to follow what people do.

Americans behind the bars.

When we think about prison, first thing come to mind is bad place to be. But this is for some people in USA but not for all people. This week we saw movie the guy lives in prison for 30 days and see the prison experience. He wants to know how does people are doing there, what they do, why they are there, but by doing this kind of experience nothing is going to be change. In prison, the guards and police officer treat them very bad like they are animals or something. If you treat them good they will think good or right way to different things but this is not happen in real life. They torture them, these may be not help those people who commit the crimes like murder, drugs, rape, other bad activities. If this work just like that in few years it will be more people will come in to prison and leave. This is how the prison system works. Also over Over 50 percent of those incarcerated in a federal prison is convicted of a crime related to drugs. Approximately 16 percent of those incarcerated in America suffer from a mental illness. This effect our society to think bad about those people who are doing something wrong but sometimes they have to do it for something. Some people in video are mentally illness and they kept that same people with regular this is going to bad impact on regular persona and creates a problem. They need to have better things around them otherwise it will not help them to change after the prison and they commit the crime again and again.
Also, since we are talking about prison and how they are treated and what is going with people on prison, we read the article courtroom 32 it was mostly related to prison and how people are treated their. The one thing in article is people who commit the crime, poor, from bad areas, etc. They are more likely to go to prison but it is not the thing they caught by police is person guilty. They just took them there and does not even care about them. They just felt guilty. Another thing is they are treated very badly by those guards and security. In saints and roughnecks they are somewhat guilty and proven a crime but in this is not. Also, person is not proven guilty until he proven guilty. Some people do not care about what is going on and lot of different stuff. Lot of people are related to drugs and serious problem. If you do not treat them well they are doing same thing over and over. Some time if you not guilty but you do not have that much money to provide a lawyer and you have to prove your self guilty. Right not lot of people going through this problems.

Doing good things for others

This week we learn about deviance in class it sound like awkward but this is one word describe as a lot of things. Most of the time when people think of deviance, they associate it with negative behavior, but that doesn't always have to be true. Deviance simply means doing something that violates the norms. Deviance in a sociological context describes actions or behaviors that violate culture norms including formally-enacted rules as well as informal violations of social norms. Norms are the specific behavioral standards, ways in which people are supposed to act, paradigms for predictable behavior in society. They are not necessarily moral, or even grounded in morality; in fact, they are just as often pragmatic and, paradoxically, irrational. This week since we learning about deviance we did one experiment for me was amazing because I work in subway during sat. and sun. During Sunday my owner tell me to do some work after she goes. She told me about what is work for new employee from tomorrow like we hire one new girl so she was telling me about it. After she lives I did all my work and I did all work for new girl who was coming tomorrow and she do not know me and anything. I did all work for her after I finish my work and did not take time off. I want to do something good about someone. So, on Monday, my owner call me and tell me you never do extra why did you do that and stuff. I say I just want to do at for her because she is new and may be she do not know how to do it. She was surprised and tells me thank you. She said did you do this work purposely and I said I just did because I like to some work, and I do not want to sit around for hours. The new girl was so happy because she do not have to do anything on her second day of the job. She don't know me either. May be I will tell her that I did that for you. This was kind of positive deviance because of doing something good about someone that they do not know us. I feel very proud of my self that I did something good for someone without know her.

Community Service

When I heard about doing community service in Sociology. I was very happy to dedicate my time for older or younger people to help them out and make them happy. I was thinking about to going to GIVE. I sign up and I started to join sunrise every Wednesday. My thinking about sunrise nursing home was like how was it? How does people behave? What kind of people live there? How they talk and thinking about us to going there? When I went there, I can not believe that everything was such a beautiful place to be and like when we entered everything smells like fresh and the residents are in side in hallway and waiting for us to help them out and talk with them. I pull my chair and sit with to older women Jeni and Mary. They both were nice to me and they take out cards and tell me to play with them. Me and my other friend play card with them. We were playing Ramie. I never played that before but it was such a good game. I won some games and some I lost. But it was very fun to play with them. After played for a while, the residents have their dinner so we help them out for dinner and we talk to individual person like I met another lady maria she is one of the best there. She was very nice, good speech, talk about her life and she asked me some questions too. While playing and talking with them time just went so fast. We have to go back to school but this was my great day to be there with them and try to know each other well. Same thing with next week we went there the Jeni and Mary was waiting for me and we played cards again and I talk to her about how they are here? Do they like it or not etc. Also, we made baby bugs that days and it was fun to make those. I made for Jeni and Mary both of them and they were so happy to put that in their room. Also, we went to the other room their people are disabled and little bit mental like they have problem of speaking or physical problem and mental problem. I help them out and I sit with them and talk about what they are doing and what is going on here? What they like and not like? Some lady does not what date that was and what month are we in? Sometimes when I look at them I feel very bad for those who do not know what is going outside. This is going forever for me. I went another week and again we did the same thing except we made some flowers for people and give to them to put that in their room. I meet again new people, I could not remember the name but they so nice to me and talking to me about who am I? Where do I go to school and that stuff. This was my best experience with people in sunrise. I love them and it was one of the best thing ever I did for others. I like to be around there and great time with residents.

One time I went to cherished children. It was nice place to be. There is lot of kids there are like around 5 to 10. They are so nice to each other and I played with those kids outside in playground it was fun time with them. I remember my old days like when I was child and playing with others. Some kids parents came to visit there. I love to play around with kids and they are like very innocent and my time just went through with them. I played with guy Mike he was seven and I try to ask him that what he is doing here and what is going on with him. We played like I run and he try to catch me and sometimes I run and catch him. It was fun time with him. Few minutes after he was not talking to me and throwing stuff at me because I was about to leave from there and he does not like that. But it was great time with those kids are playing around. I love this class and community service. It make us to help others and try to know others well.

Teens are growing and Independence

This is week we were talk about like time we were born to age around 27 how many things change over time and years like when we are 2 or 3 we started to walking and speaking, also try to understand and see around what is going on? That is important until age 10 but after that age people change because they have gone to middle school and start becoming older and older. Around age 16 people started to drive car and 18 through 21 smoking, alcohol, college and jobs. Most important thing is how well you work with this years if you not do anything during this years like school, college graduation we will have bad future. But for some people is different like they are ready at that age like age 16 they are not ready to drive a car and be ready for college because they are not old enough to think about this vital things. My thinking is around age 18 teens think they are old enough to understand what is going around them. But when they are in college, they understand and after college they most students are financially and emotionally still reliant on their families. For example, you might have an apartment in the city, but you have to share the rent and or mom and dad help pay the rent, or pay for a car etc. So some sociologists have said the age of real independence adulthood is going up to the late 20s. I think this things need to be change because this create problem on those young people and try to do bad things like going to buy alcohol before age 21, smoke , etc. Americans learn from a young age through their teens that they are expected to be irresponsible, submissive and asexual and then as adults they are expected to be the opposite.

Also, today in class we were talking about deviance like how they are effected to society in general and how we should think about that. This describe actions or behaviors that violate culture norms including formally-enacted rules as well as informal violations of social norms. Norms are the specific behavioral standards, ways in which people are supposed to act, paradigms for predictable behavior in society. They are not necessarily moral, or even grounded in morality; in fact, they are just as often pragmatic and, paradoxically, irrational. This is something that we should think is not right for our society like men wears dress or men were kiss. That is something different then what we see everyday. Like having big tattoos around body that is not normal it does effect on different people. Viewing deviance as a violation of social norms, sociologists have characterized it as "any thought, feeling or action that members of a social group judge to be a violation of their values or rules". Overall this is expected by society varies depending on where you are and when you are there.

People are changing over age...

I was shocked by watching different ads that are very offensive about girls that shows on t.v., media and everywhere but this is very bad for younger kids and made them to do bad things. Like we saw movie this week about teens masculinity since they are kids they learn or shape by this kind of stuff. Try to look different from other people like their clothes, their behaviour, how they talk to others. This all thing going to change kids mind and think bad about different things. When they are in six or seventh grade they want to look like a gang member or they wear clothes like that. Want to show off their masculinity and how they look. When I was watching movie today it was very critical to watch how everything is changing around media and t.v. ads. It is very about girls that use in every different ads and make their body pictures and show us about their how their body shape. Everyone one thinks about girls need to be thin, tall, and beautiful. But sometimes its not true it effects on teens girls and Try to wear and do new things what they see on t.v. they want to try it or do it. Media I guess mostly focus on Women. When you make something about women and try to show that on media it make teens and younger people influence very badly. When they talk about women first thing comes to our mind is about how should women be shaped. Also, looking for perfect life their body and their shape. But the main thing is just to be a safe make all ads and media to not show offensive pictures about women. The huge impact that the media has today on women is extremely negative and damaging to their self-esteem and body image. Every commercial and infomercial on t.v., in magazines, on billboards, on pop-up computer ads, and more are telling women how they should change their bodies and what they can use to do so. I think women does not have to change anything how they are right now they are fine. Nothing has to be change like they show to us on movie today.
